The cable-TV network TLC has been airing a show called 18 Kids and Counting for several seasons now. It is about the Duggar family, which is two parents, 19 children and one grandchild. The new season is getting ready to begin, but it is now called 19 Kids and Counting. The Duggars have also written a book called Twenty and Counting. They have one grandchild that they call the grandDuggar. Many people are upset about this family’s reproduction rate and worry about if they can support their children. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals made it public that they think as long as Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, the parents that started the Duggar family, are able to keep a sturdy roof over their head, healthy food on their plates and clean clothes on their backs that there is no problem to be seen in the family.
Karin Bennett from PETA used this to follow up by saying that there is a far more reproductive issue at hand. This issue is the rapid reproduction of stray cats and dogs. The article that PETA put out on its Web site stated the following facts: One unspayed female cat and her offspring can birth over 420,000 cats in just seven years, and one unneutered male dog can father limitless litters of puppies. Over half of these animals, especially stray cats and dogs and their litters, that end up in animal shelters in the United States will be euthanized due to a lack of homes willing to accept a stray animal. That is nearly six to eight million cats and dogs that are killed in just one year. Many more that are not euthanized are just set out on the street to die hungry, cold, and alone. Many of the ones that are put out on the streets are victims of abuse, cruelty, starvation, disease, and injuries. These are all problems that none of the Duggar children have to worry about.

In order to both support TLC’s show 18 Kids and Counting along with their own organization PETA will be putting billboards up in the Duggar’s hometown of Tontitown, Arkansas. These billboards will also be appearing in surrounding towns including Springdale and Fayetetville. The billboards have blue backgrounds with white shadows of cats and dogs along the bottom of it. Written on it is the words, “Doggies Multiply Faster than Duggars. Be Responsible, Always Spay and Neuter.”
